German Marble Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup half-and-half or milk if you prefer
1 cup sweet butter (do not substitute)
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 1/4 cups flour
3 tablespoons dark rum
4 eggs
Pinch of salt or 1/8 teaspoon
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 F. A 10-inch tube pan should be greased and floured. In a bowl, beat the butter and the sugar until creamy and pour in the eggs. Mix and add the milk and almond extract.
In another recipient, put the flour, the baking powder and the salt and sift. Put it in the butter mixture and mix. Pour half of the mixture in another recipient and stir in the cocoa and the rum.
Pour the two mixtures around the pan, alternately and bake for 1 hour 10 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
Note: Melted chocolate can be poured on the top of the cake.
