Brownstone Front Cake
Brownstone Front Cake Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 cup (2 sticks) margarine
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups granulated sugar
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
3 cups cake flour
3 egg whites, stiffly beaten
3 egg yolks
Instructions:
Put the baking soda in the buttermilk and mix. Set aside to expand. In a mixing bowl, beat the margarine and the sugar until creamy.
Then, mix in the egg yolks and the chocolate. Add the buttermilk-soda mixture and the sifted ingredients. Beat well after adding the vanilla extract.
Fold in the egg whites and grease a lined tube pan. Then, pour in the mixture and bake at 300 F for 1 hour. It can be served plain or frosted with Icing for Brownstone Front Cake.

Icing for Brownstone Front Cake
1 (5 1/3 ounce) can evaporated milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine
2 cups granulated sugar
Instructions:
Pour milk in a saucepan and add the margarine and the sugar. Allow to melt over a low heat then bring to the boiling point and simmer for 45 minutes uncovered. Remove from the heat and add the vanilla extract.
Allow cooling at room temperature, beat well and finally spread it on the cake.
